Two years ago, our family’s world was turned upside down. Within the same week, my nephew Josh was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of bone cancer — and his beloved Grammy, was diagnosed with ALS.
Since that day, Josh has faced more than most adults ever will. He’s endured intensive chemotherapy, multiple surgeries, and countless hospital stays. Because his local hospital couldn’t provide the specialized care he needed, Josh and my sister Erin have had to travel four hours each way to MD Anderson in San Antonio for every treatment, surgery, and scan.
Through it all, Josh has shown remarkable strength. Despite the endless medical challenges, he graduated high school at the top of his class, earned a college scholarship, and is now pursuing a degree in Education — determined to teach and inspire others.
We thought the hardest days were behind him when he received his final leg implant and began to heal. But his most recent scan brought heartbreaking news — a concerning lesion in his lung that requires another major surgery, a lung resection, and possibly more treatments ahead.
As our family braced for another round in Josh’s fight, tragedy struck again. Erin, Josh’s devoted mom and caregiver, has been diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma (breast cancer). Erin must also travel the same four-hour trip to MD Anderson for her own treatments, including radiation therapy. This all hit at the same time, when Erin’s mom and Josh’s Grammy lost her battle with ALS.
Through it all, Erin and Ken, have been holding everything together at home — caring for their three younger children while balancing work and making sure Josh and Erin can get the care they need. The emotional, physical, and financial strain on their family has been unimaginable.
After years of travel, lost work, and mounting medical bills, we are humbly asking for help. Your support will go toward:
• Travel expenses to and from MD Anderson (4 hours each way)
• Medical bills and medications not covered by insurance
• Lodging and meals during hospital stays
• Everyday expenses for Erin, Ken, and their children during treatment
Josh and Erin have shown extraordinary courage and faith through every setback. They continue to fight for each other and their family — but they can’t do it alone.
If you’re able, please consider donating to help ease their burden. If you can’t give, please share their story — every share, prayer, and kind word means the world to them.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with Josh, Erin, Ken, and their children as they continue this fight.
