On the night of June 28, our lives were turned upside down. On his way home, Erik, was stopped by the police. Because he did not have a US identification card, he was immediately arrested and transferred to an immigration detention center.
Erik is only 20 years old. He is a kind, hard-working young man who has always been a responsible, upstanding member of his community. He goes to church every Sunday, has absolutely no criminal record, and has always paid his taxes on time, his only "flaw" was not having legal US citizenship. As the main provider for his mother, they depend entirely on his income for rent, groceries, and daily survival. Now, not only is his mother facing the heartbreak of her son being detained, but she is also facing an immediate financial crisis without his support.
This situation is one that you never expect to happen to someone you know and our family was completely unprepared for the staggering costs of the immigration legal system.
We are urgently raising money to hire an experienced immigration lawyer to represent Erik, fight his case, and do everything possible to prevent his deportation.
All funds raised will go completely towards Erik’s legal fees and documentation costs. Time is of the essence in immigration cases. Every day counts, and we need to secure legal representation as quickly as possible.
