UPDATE: What a journey it's been. Our family is overwhelmed by the love and financial help you've sent so far. It's been a journey this past month. Just short of 22 days at the hospital and many sleepless nights. Eric fought. He fought and fought. I'm happy to say he made it through the other side and still has a long ways to recover at home.
Thank you to the entire Staff at MUSC Cardiovascular ICU. We were blown away by the support and love that was shown during our stay. Thank you so much. We are grateful for the long 12 hr shifts and many hard moments you helped navigate us through. Forever in our hearts!
On Friday, September 6, Eric went to the hospital and ended up in the ICU with a heart attack. The doctors discovered quickly that his heart had many blockages and would require open heart surgery. On Sunday, he underwent emergency triple bypass and his heart was so weak that the doctors inserted a balloon pump and a device to basically do his heart’s work for him while he recovered.
The next day, it became apparent he would need more extensive care so he was life-flighted to MUSC in Charleston. As time has passed, it was discovered that something was going on with his brain, specifically his communication. They ran a CT and discovered he had suffered a stroke. He is struggling with expressive aphasia and has a long path to recovery. (He can understand but has a hard time putting his thoughts in words)
As we know, life still goes on during hardships like this so Eric and Debra could use a helping hand. They still need to pay for housing, insurance, and all of the other expenses as Eric is unable to work. Debra will also need to stay in Charleston for an indefinite amount of time which will definitely be a huge expense. We are asking for your help financially to help alleviate this stress so they can be fully present to process and heal.
We covet your prayers and any help you can provide. Thank you!
