Hello everyone I am the daughter of Eric Olson and am trying to raise money for out of pocket medical expenses. Mainly for a caregiver until IHSS is set up which can take a month or more. My dad went into respiratory failure on December 6th and was not expected to make it. Doctors told us his lungs were really bad and would have to get a tracheostomy or start making him comfortable to pass. We were already calling his brother's in to say goodbye and getting end of life details in order. My dad heard the palliative care doctor say this to us and something snapped in his head. He refused a tube but decided to fight that day and showed us he is not going anywhere. He tried getting out of bed and to tell us he wanted to walk out. The next day, he started getting off bypap and started talking. He is very determined to live and be around for his 8 grandkids and 2 daughters. He is getting depressed and home sick. Unfortunately, he had to go to a skilled nursing facility to rehabilitate, but there is so much about his care and specific needs not being addressed, and this forces him to be an hour away from his family. We are his main advocates and its not easy caring for him or advocating when we cannot physically be there. The goal I am asking to reach is calculated at a max of $30 an hour and at 8 hours a day for 30 days. That is the typical going rate for caregivers in the area we live. We already are buying diapers, bed pads, life alert, etc to continue his care. If there is anything extra aside from his caregiver needs, it would go to supporting any of his needs moving forward that medi-cal cannot cover. I am asking anyone who finds it in there heart and capability, to please donate to help get my dad home sooner than later. This is his second time going through a hospital stay and nursing facilities and I cannot stand seeing him go through this again, or him being away from home. He has lost 3-4 years of holidays all together with his family, and being degraded as a human being because he needed bathroom assistance or breathing treatments. He has asked for what he needs in these facilities over and over, and cannot seem to get simple things done until one of us call in and demand it. They do it on the spot when we call, but can sit there for an hour in a dirty diaper even though he verbally asked himself several times. He is alert and aware of how he is being treated. He has survived cancer and now respiratory failure. Please help my dad get back home to his family, which he has fought so hard to do already. We want him home.
