Help Eric Fight Kidney Cancer: A Journey of Strength and Hope
Dear Friends and Family,
I'm reaching out to share the hardest story I've ever had to write—one that has changed our lives forever. On September 13, 2024, my beloved partner, Eric Holiday, was diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma (Kidney Cancer). At only 48 years old, Eric was a picture of health: a dedicated fitness enthusiast, vibrant, and full of life. There were no signs that anything was amiss—until one day, he noticed a painful bulge on his lower left side.
Initially, we thought it might be a hernia, a consequence of his physically demanding job at Rocking B Wireless, where he had worked for over five years. But during an emergency room visit, we were confronted with a terrifying reality: Eric had a mass that had doubled the size of his left kidney, and it had spread to his lungs and lymph nodes. From that moment on, our lives turned into a roller coaster of emotions, uncertainty, and fear.
In the weeks following his diagnosis, Eric continued to work, determined not to let the illness take away his passion for his job and the supportive work family he had built at Rocking B. Their kindness and understanding have been a beacon of hope during this dark time. However, as the disease progressed, Eric’s health deteriorated rapidly—he went from a strong 210 pounds to just 130 pounds, struggling to hold food down and facing multiple hospital visits due to complications from the cancer.
By the end of October, it became clear that he could no longer work. The decision to step back was heartbreaking, but it was necessary for him to focus on healing. In November, Eric began a new treatment plan: chemotherapy pills and immunotherapy to attack the cancer cells. The hope is that these treatments will shrink the tumors enough to allow for surgery to remove his non-functioning left kidney.
Since starting treatment, we’ve seen some positive changes. Eric has regained his appetite and has put on some weight—he is now at 150 pounds! His doctor plans to continue chemotherapy for at least six months before re-evaluating for surgery. However, the financial burden of his treatment is overwhelming. Each month, his chemotherapy pills cost over $9,000, with infusions adding another $9,000. While we are grateful that his pills are covered through the end of this year due to a prescription assistance program, we face an immense challenge in January when insurance benefits reset.
This is where we need your help. We are humbly asking for any support you can offer to help cover Eric’s treatment costs. The total expenses exceed $18,000 each month, an amount that is far beyond our means. Your donations, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in our fight against this disease.
We appreciate every bit of love, support, and prayers during this difficult time. Thank you for taking the time to listen to Eric's story and for being a part of our journey.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Amanda
