Hello everyone, my name is Erica McGee. I'm 34 years old from Cahokia Heights, IL. On April 7, 2025, Monday morning, my son and I were doing our regular routine for school. We get up, get ready, and head to the bus stop. Well, on this particular day, my son and I hopped in our vehicle (White 2021 Jeep Compass Trailhawk) and went to the bus stop, which is down the street from our house. Usually, there are other parents down there at the bus stop, but on this particular day, my son and I were the only ones there. As we were sitting there, a Maroon Charger pulled up in front of us, and two Black teenagers with guns hopped out and walked up to our car. In the midst of that happening, my son asked if he could sit on my lap. As the guys walked up, one of the individuals came to the passenger side, pointed his gun towards my son, and said, "Don't be dumb." I grabbed my son, unlocked the door, and exited the vehicle. The police were contacted immediately, and a report has been filed. I'm still waiting to hear back from my insurance company.
I would have had the money to cover the cost to get my car back, but the truth of the matter is I just paid my rent, car note, insurance, and electric bill, which runs over $2000 alone. The police got my car back the same day, but it was being held for processing up until today. The towing company told me in order to get my car back, I need $550, and it needs to be towed, and they don't have the key. They charge $50 a day. I spoke with my car dealership, and they said as far as the coverage I have, it won't work due to the car being stolen. I can get a key from them, but it's going to take a couple of weeks to order, and it's going to cost me $90 to program and $210 for the key. I have to get another tire and rim for my car. I don't know how much that's going to cost me, and who's to say that I have to replace all 4 tires. Please anything will help I am a student myself and I had to miss classes due to this situation. As a mom things are hard for me right now these guys left my son traumatized after this situation he doesn't want to go to the bus stop not more so now I have to figure out how to get him to and from school without having a vehicle. My son is 7 years old and he doesn't deserve to go thru this. I'm asking everyone for help please please please. It's going to take me and and hour and 30 mins to get to school myself.
I'm trying to get my vehicle back ASAP. Please, anything would help.
