Support Erica & Matt: Suki’s Unexpected Vet Bills

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Erica, and I’m reaching out for help with our beloved dog, Suki, who means the absolute world to us.
On February 22, around 3 a.m., Suki accidentally ate a hand warmer, which can be extremely dangerous and poisonous due to the chemicals inside. We’re so lucky that she threw up most of it, but an x-ray showed that some of the contents were still in her intestines. She was admitted to BluePearl Vet Hospital for 24-hour care, where she was closely monitored and given treatment to help flush the remaining toxins from her GI tract.
Thankfully, Suki is now home, and we were able to clear out the remains from her system. However, her lab results from the time of arrival have now come back, showing that her iron toxicity levels are elevated. We are hoping her levels have lowered after her treatments during her hospital stay and the medications she’s been on, but we need to do another round of bloodwork to confirm. If her levels are still high, she may need to be hospitalized again, which would double our current bill and put us in an even more difficult financial situation. This additional lab test alone will cost another $350 on top of her initial vet bill of $3,753.65.
We are trying everything we can to reduce these costs. We recently got pet insurance for Suki, and we have been fighting to have them cover part of the bill. However, because her policy became active after she was already hospitalized, our claim was denied. Right now, we are trying to get at least her upcoming lab test covered, but there’s no guarantee.
Matt and I already struggle financially. Last December, we had to move apartments because things became too expensive. I’m a full-time college student graduating this May, working multiple jobs just to survive, and Matt also works multiple jobs to help make ends meet. We’re only in our mid-20s, and like so many others our age, we’re also still paying off debt on top of everything else. Despite working as hard as we can, we had to downsize apartments to save money, and it’s still been so difficult. This unexpected emergency has hit us at the worst time, and we truly need the help.
Beyond the financial burden, this has been an incredibly emotional time for us. Matt lost both his dad and grandfather last year, and Suki has been his rock, helping him through his grief in ways no one else could. For me, I haven’t been able to see my family in six years, living far away from home. Suki helps us go on with our lives every single day, bringing us joy, comfort, and unconditional love when we need it most. We honestly don’t know what we’d do if we ever lost her.
Suki is our daughter, and we love her so much. We are doing everything we can for her, but we can’t do this alone. Any contribution, no matter how small, would mean the world to us. Even if you can’t donate, simply sharing this post helps more than you know. We also ask for prayers that Suki’s levels have dropped so she can continue recovering at home and avoid another hospitalization.

Thank you so much for supporting our sweet girl. Your kindness and generosity will never be forgotten!

With gratitude,
Erica & Matt
