Hello everyone my friend's name is Eric Mitchum who many of you know. Over the past 12 months he's had a roller coaster of health problems. I'm going to try to briefly go over them now, hopefully I can relay exactly what he's been through. The short story version. So, starting about a year ago he developed cataracts, and he eventually could not see and unfortunately could not work or drive. He's legally blind currently until his cardiologist clears him for surgery. Eric, also had problems with his stomach and abdominal area which he thought was peritonitis due to him being on dialysis. He went to the hospital and they ran a bunch of tests to find out what was wrong, but he didn't have peritonitis. At that time they were not exactly sure what he had. What they found was a growth on his heart valve. An infectious disease doctor was consulted, and they put him on antibiotics once a day for 6 weeks straight. The growth on his heart at the end of the the antibiotics cycle had not shrunk. It had actually grown so that's when they decided he needed to go see a heart specialist, and he was sent to MUSC. The specialist decided that he needed to have his heart valve replaced. During that time he had to wait until October 2025 before they would be able to see him again for surgery. To give everyone a timeline this started in January of 2025. That is when all of this started to get bad for him. The specialist went in through his wrist and did a heart cath he then found out that he had another blockage around his heart so they put in a stent, and Eric had to spend the next week in the hospital under observation. He then had more complications while he was in there dealing with abdominal pains and other issues. Finally, he got approved for his heart valve replacement after all the obstacles. His surgery went well, and he had his valve replaced. His titanium valve is proudly named "tick tock" from Peter Pan as he puts it. He then spent about 3 to 4 weeks in the hospital recovering. He then learned how weak he was. He had to learn to walk again, and regain all lost strength. Eric despite being weak was released from the hospital. Then while at home he had a stroke. He then spent 2 months between the hospital and rehab. He has had no strength to work. No ability to work. Eric has always the first to help anyone and treats everybody the way that he would want to be treated. He does home repair and improvements for many realtors (including myself) in the the Sumter area and beyond! Unfortunately his work is not possible for him to do at this time. Please help our friend as he recovers to be able to help us once again. Sorry, all of this is a lot to explain. I just want us to all give back to someone who's so giving always like I said the first to help, it's time for us to help him.
