In May of 2025, I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. Since then, I have been managing the symptoms and side effects of the condition, but I haven’t been unable to complete treatment due to mounting medical expenses. Despite having health insurance through my employer, I am facing nearly $4,000 in medical bills related to emergency room visits and follow-up care.
At the same time, I have been without pay since September 2025 after taking FMLA leave to serve as the primary caregiver for my mother, who has multiple sclerosis. Prior to this, I was also caring for my grandmother, who was battling dementia and cancer until her passing in September. Providing this level of care is more than one person can realistically manage, but there was no alternative—my family needed me, and I stepped in.
Before taking leave from work and shortly before my diagnosis, I experienced a severe flu followed by a serious dental infection that required a repeat root canal. These medical issues forced me to exhaust all of my paid time off and ultimately take unpaid leave.
As a result, I have now been without income since September 2025 while still responsible for essential living expenses such as rent, car payments, and insurance. When combined with my medical debt, my total financial shortfall is approximately $6,840.
My mother currently does not qualify for Medicaid, which would help pay for in-home care. They have denied her twice. We are currently applying for a third time.
Asking for help is not easy for me, but I am truly in need during this difficult time. Any contribution—no matter the amount—would help ease the financial burden and allow me to focus on my health and caregiving responsibilities.
Taking unpaid leave was never my first choice, but my mother and grandmother needed me. Family comes first. Thank you sincerely for your support, kindness, and understanding. ❤️
