Help Eric Hoff Recover from a Life-Changing Spinal Injury

My name is Eric Hoff, and for years, I’ve poured my heart into design-build construction—designing projects and bringing them to life through concrete work, framing, trim work. Hands on. I was proud to provide for my wife, Laura, and our family. But in January, everything changed.

We were already struggling to make ends meet when I suffered a devastating spinal injury. At first, I hoped it would heal on its own, but the pain in my groin, hip, and left leg became unbearable. For five days, I couldn’t move or even use the bathroom. My dog, Rose, loved having me on the floor at her level and stayed by my side, but the pain only worsened.

On the fifth day, Laura and I called an ambulance. An MRI revealed severe spinal damage, and doctors recommended immediate surgery. I couldn’t feel or move my left leg and had lost the ability to walk. The surgery was successful, but my construction career is over. I can’t lift more than 5 pounds, drive for months, or perform heavy work again. Recovery will take 7 months to a year, and I still have no feeling in my lower back or parts of my left leg.

Thanks to physical therapy, I’m slowly regaining my ability to walk normally, but the road ahead is long. I’m pivoting to a new career in design and project management, but it will take time to rebuild. Meanwhile, medical bills and living expenses are piling up.
