Hello, my name is Michelle Kent and I am organizing this GoFundMe for my brother, Eric Frey.

Shortly after the start of 2024, Eric found himself hospitalized for what doctors thought were kidney stones. Unfortunately, this was the start of a 9-week hospital stay that has forever changed his life. He was actually in heart failure and was told he needed a heart transplant. While going through the intense testing to verify he was a transplant candidate, he suffered a stroke, which was a major setback that led his cardiac team to perform surgery and implant an LVAD. As a family, we have rallied beside him and assisted where we can. When first released, he needed 24-hour companion care in case of emergency as he got used to life with battery packs and daily driveline dressing changes to prevent infections. Throughout this ordeal, Eric has shown more resilience than anyone I know. He eased back into work as soon as possible and juggled that along with his multiple weekly medical appointments. This month, he found out he is officially on the heart transplant list, and that is wonderful news. Now his job is to stay healthy while waiting for the perfect match.

Eric is a loving son, brother, and father of two great young men. He is also the sole provider for his household. The cost of his hospital stay, surgery for the LVAD, medications, and the necessary ongoing health testing/assessments for his future heart transplant are overwhelming. Even with insurance, the full scope of what he is currently facing is daunting. To make matters worse, he recently lost his employment and is now paying a small fortune to keep the insurance he needs to continue on his treatment plan.

At this time, we are turning to our family, friends, and community to help my brother Eric while he walks through this challenging season—all while losing his income in the process.
