Our hearts are shattered as we stand beside my best friend, Rolanda Phoenix, who is living every parent’s worst nightmare. Her son, Eric Billups—affectionately known as “KING”—was truly a king in every sense. At just 16 years old, he was a bright light in this world: an honor roll student, a dedicated football player at Hyde Park Academy, and a young man full of promise, purpose, and greatness. He was doing everything right. He was where he was supposed to be—on his way home—when his life was senselessly taken at a bus stop outside the YMCA, steps away from his school. KING lived with strength, heart, and dignity—and now, we find comfort in knowing he is resting in the arms of our Father and Lord and Savior.
This is not just a loss—it is a tragedy that has ripped through a family and shaken an entire community. His life was stolen far too soon, and the pain his mother and loved ones are carrying is beyond words. We are urgently calling on our community—our village—to rise up and surround Rolanda and her family with unwavering love and support. They need us now more than ever.
We are asking for prayers, for shares, and for any financial support you can give to help lay KING to rest with dignity and to assist Rolanda in relocating her family as they try to heal from this devastating loss. Please don’t look away. Stand with this family. Wrap them in love. Show them they are not alone in their darkest hour. Every prayer matters. Every share matters. Every act of support matters.
