For over 30 years, our Ephraim Owens has poured his heart into the music that makes Austin move. From soulful jazz sets to global tours, Ephraim’s trumpet has been a heartbeat of countless stages and stories with a variety of artists such as The Tedeschi Trucks Band, Mumford and Sons, Sheryl Crow and numerous musicians in Austin and abroad. Now, Ephraim’s own beautiful musical heart needs our help.
Ephraim was diagnosed with chronic heart failure, a condition that led to a stroke last summer, multiple hospitalizations, and an ongoing, intensive medical recovery, as well as an early prediction of a heart pump surgery. He’s been sidelined from touring and limited in playing local gigs since August 2024.
The Good News
- Ephraim is staying strong, in good spirits, and fully committed to his recovery.
- His doctors are optimistic, and believe he will likely no longer need the heart surgery they initially predicted
- He has a close-knit, loving family supporting him every step of the way.
The Challenge
Since his diagnosis, Ephraim hasn’t been able to perform—his primary source of income. Between lost wages, ongoing medical bills, and basic living expenses like rent and utilities, the financial toll is mounting.
He needs our help covering an estimated $81,894 in essential costs during this recovery period.

For those of you who know Ephraim, you know that he’s a private person. In fact, it took a lot of convincing for him to let us share his story. But if you’ve ever been moved by his music, lifted by his laughter, or warmed by his presence—you know just how much he’s given to others. Now is our chance to give back.
Let’s show that incredible heart of his, some love.
