My husband, Eoin Delaney, is a stubborn fighter, an avid GAA player, and a passionate traveler who has always lived life to the absolute fullest.

Eoin's brain tumor journey began back in 2013 when he was just 24 years old. An ordinary evening in Dublin, spent hanging out with his brother Richie, ended with him experiencing his first absence seizure. He was rushed to the hospital, where an MRI revealed a mass in his brain.

He underwent a grueling craniotomy — awake and in his full senses — to be ultimately diagnosed with a low grade glioma. Following a successful surgery and radiation, Eoin refused to let the diagnosis slow him down. He spent the next eleven years living life to the fullest — moving to two new countries before moving back home to Ireland, building a successful career with dunnhumby, and embracing every moment with new friends and a new partner.

Fast forward to December 2024, nearly a week before Christmas, Eoin received a call from his Neurosurgeon, Prof. Donncha O'Brien, that his latest routine MRI revealed the tumor had returned. Our world was turned upside down.

The Shock of a New Diagnosis
Eoin immediately underwent a second craniotomy. While the surgery was successful, the subsequent pathology report left us completely devastated. Eoin was diagnosed with a Grade 4 Astrocytoma IDH mutant (Glioblastoma) — an incredibly aggressive form of brain cancer.

Eoin has privately navigated his brain tumor journey from the start and has kept his new prognosis under the radar. Following standard care — including intense radiation, chemotherapy, and countless speech, language, and occupational therapy sessions to relearn how to read and write — he is finally ready to share his story. He wants to spread awareness, serve as a beacon of hope for others, and gain access to life changing treatment options.

The Plan: Cutting Edge Care in Lithuania
To give Eoin the absolute best chance at long term survival, we are raising funds for him to receive a cutting edge dendritic cell vaccine administered by PreciOnco in Lithuania. While there are no guarantees with any immunotherapy, we’ve done plenty of research and believe this is 100% worth pursuing alongside standard medical treatments and care. Eoin’s multidisciplinary medical team has been supportive of this combination treatment approach and is ready to work with us.

This advanced, personalized immunotherapy works by training Eoin's own immune cells to recognize and attack his specific cancer cells. Eoin has been officially accepted into this treatment program. Once his personalized vaccine is created, he must travel to Lithuania every single month for a full year to receive his doses.

The Financial Mountain: €150,000
Since this specialized treatment is considered cutting edge, it is not covered by insurance or public healthcare. Ireland does not currently offer this treatment and there are very few countries that do outside of clinical trials. Of the countries that do offer this treatment, patients are accepted on a limited basis of availability and meeting very specific criteria. Thankfully, the clinic in Lithuania has accepted Eoin’s case and are ready to move forward with creating his vaccine as soon as the finances are in place.

The total cost for the vaccine manufacturing and administering, specialized oncology care, monthly international travel, and ongoing medical expenses comes to approximately €150,000.

While this is not an overnight emergency, time is absolutely of the essence. The sooner we can secure these funds, the faster the treatment team can begin creating the vaccine, and the quicker Eoin can start this specialized immunotherapy.

*If you would like to follow a more personal look into our daily life as patient and caregiver, we welcome you to join us on our Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/badcellsgoodvibes/. While this is a very serious situation, Eoin continues to keep a light hearted mindset when it comes to his journey and you will likely find us laughing and goofing off in the midst of this prognosis, because it’s the only way we know how to cope. It’s ok to not feel comfortable knowing what to say, how to act around us, or how to help - we completely get it. If you’re a stranger, say hi! If you know someone in a similar situation, send them to our page. Our goal is to connect, bring positivity, and remind everyone to find something each day to smile about :)
