Support Englebert in his stomach cancer fight

Donation protected
Englebert (Bert) Lopez, my younger brother, was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive stomach cancer in October of 2021.

When he was told he had stomach cancer, he cried and asked “why, why stomach cancer, I love food.”

If you know Bert on a personal level, you know that he is a foodie, he loves going to extravagant restaurants and trying new dishes with his wife, two sons and friends. He also loves staying physically fit by going to the gym and eating as healthy as he could. His wife Dane loves cooking for him as food has always been what keeps Bert smiling.

As of the date of his diagnosis, Bert has undergone total Gastrectomy (full stomach removal), received chemotherapy treatments, and radiation. Although the adversities, he has remained in good spirit, and has accepted his new life without a stomach. He accepted that he was no longer going to be able to eat a full plate of food. The satisfaction of being able to live without a stomach and still be alive to enjoy the love of his family is a blessing to us all.

Bert had a period when life went back to normal, as normal as it could be, but unfortunately the cancer came back.

Since the day of his original diagnosis, there have been SOOOO many challenges, heartaches and pain that I have watched him, and our family go through. As we all know, cancer also robs you of your mental health. Although he is tired, he is willing to continue to fight this cruel disease. He has begun chemotherapy treatments again. With the love and support of his family and friends, he continues to stay optimistic.

Bert always had such a simple life. I know with prayers and with the Lord’s blessings he will get it back. He is a devoted family man, a dedicated worker, has such a great sense of humor, and is a loyal friend to all that has been blessed to know him.

Bert loves attending his 10-year-old son (Maison) soccer practices and tournaments. With all the challenges and his inability to move around like he used to, I am profoundly amazed by his determination to still show up for his son. He sits in the car from a distance just to see him play and at times he is unable to see his son due to the far distance, but he tells me, “I’d rather be here just so Maison know that I am here.”

Aside from being a family man, he also loves football. He made many great friends through the love of football. We all know Bert loves the Buffalo Bills and was blessed by his good friends who reached out to the Buffalo Bills on his behalf to get him tickets to attend a game. I am forever grateful to his friends for putting a big smile on his face.

I’d like to continue in keeping a smile on Bert’s face by helping him not to worry about the financial obligations that are still expected of him. Cancer has already taken away so much from him physically, emotionally and mentally. His financial obligations shouldn’t be a factor when he is trying to FIGHT to LIVE.

As Bert is off work on an unpaid leave of absence, the monthly bills continue to roll in, and although he has health insurance there are still out-of-pocket health costs that are adding up.
If you are able to donate, please support Bert through this GoFundMe. No donation is too small, and we are so grateful. We appreciate your generosity and kindness.
