Support Emmy's Film: Finalize Be My Baby Now

Hi friends,

As some of you know, I wrapped production on my very first short film, "Be My Baby Now"! It's a passion project that's been years in the making, and I was able to fund it through my podcast earnings, which feel like a full circle kind of moment. I believed in this story so much that I threw everything I had into making it and I couldn't be more proud of what we captured on set.

That said, as I've learned quickly, production is only half the battle and we ended up going a bit over budget. I'm looking to raise finishing funds to cover some of the post-production costs like the editing, music licensing, scoring, and film festival submissions. These final steps are crucial to bringing "Be My Baby Now" to life the way it deserves, and getting it out into the world.

"Be My Baby Now" is a deeply personal exploration of love, identity, and healing. As a Mexican-American woman of trans experience, I’ve often navigated the complexities of seeking connection in a world that frequently misunderstands and marginalizes our identities. This film reflects not only Julia Trujillo's journey but also the broader experience of many trans individuals who yearn for acceptance and love while battling societal prejudices and personal traumas.

Julia’s story begins in darkness, marked by a traumatic hate crime that leaves her deeply scarred. Her relocation to Los Angeles is symbolic of a fresh start, yet it also brings a new set of challenges as she ventures back into the dating world. Each ill-fated date Julia endures is a reminder of how trans women are often seen through a distorted lens of fetishization and sexualization, rather than being appreciated for their true selves. These encounters are not just disappointing; they exacerbate Julia’s feelings of isolation and misunderstanding, compounding the emotional wounds she is trying to heal.

Through Julia’s journey, "Be My Baby Now" sheds light on the harsh realities of dating as a trans woman, highlighting the societal issues that still plague our communities. Yet, amidst the pain and disillusionment, the film carries a powerful message of resilience and self-love. Julia’s decision to step back from the pursuit of external validation and focus on her own healing is a crucial turning point. It’s a recognition that true love and connection start from within.

Love is universal, creating this film was an act of self-reclamation for me and, I hope, for many others who see themselves in Julia. It’s a reminder that our worth is not defined by the acceptance of others but by our own understanding and love of ourselves. Julia’s journey is a testament to the strength and resilience that define us beyond our traumas and relationship failures. "Be My Baby Now" is not just a story of pain and struggle; it’s a celebration of the power that comes from embracing one’s identity and the transformative journey towards self-love.

It’s my hope that this film will resonate with audiences, cultivates empathy, understanding, and a greater appreciation for the beauty and complexity of trans lives. If the story resonates, or you've enjoyed my podcast, "Crumbs", and have supported my creative journey in any way, this is a moment where your help would mean the world to me. Any little bit helps. I'm so proud of what we've created and I can't wait to share it with the world once its complete. Thank you for being part of this journey.

With gratitude,
