Hello! My name is Marissa Emmie Torii Williams and I am an aspiring opera singer studying at the Eastman School of Music!
This summer, I have been given an incredible opportunity to attend Opera Viva! in Verona, Italy. Through this program, I will be studying the Italian language, vocal pedagogy, have private Italian diction coachings, private lessons, and the opportunity to perform sacred music in one of Italy's historical churches as well as in opera scenes, arias, and multiple public performances. These experiences are crucial for young singers who are preparing for professional careers in voice and opera. Many of the works I sing are in Italian, so it will be important and extremely educational to immerse myself not only in the Italian language and culture but the birthplace of opera itself.
Growing up in Massachusetts, I was fortunate to have been surrounded by mentors, teachers, a supportive community, and loving parents. Their constant encouragement gave me wings to pursue my passion for the arts and sustained me through this journey. From singing in my school choirs in Wayland, to performing in operas in high school, and all the public performances in between has culminated in my attending one of the premier schools for classical voice at the Eastman School of Music and now this extraordinary opportunity. I am extraordinarily lucky and eternally grateful.
As I prepare for this opportunity, I am working to raise funds to help cover the costs of tuition and travel expenses. Any contribution will mean the world to me. Every donation, no matter the size, helps bring me one step closer to Verona.
Thank you for your support in my education and growth as a performer as well as supporting me in my dream of becoming an opera singer!
