Support Emmett's Fight for Life

On 8/22, I received devastating the news that every pet owner dreads… “it’s cancer”. My beautiful, otherwise healthy, 4 year old rescue dog. My boy who came to me in 2021 from the shelter, skin and bones, covered in scars, with a prolapsed rectum. He was terrified of everything, but always sooo sweet. My medical foster fail, who’s been through neglect, harm, multiple medical procedures, was finally living a happy and healthy life- until now. 3 years is not enough, this boy deserves as much time as we can get him. PLEASE HELP ME SAVE MY DOG. I cannot continue treatment without help!!! Full story below.

Emmett’s story:
Posted on the “Rescue Only” Facebook page at Indianapolis Animal Care Services(IACS) in July of 2021, I immediately knew he was meant to be my boy. He was posted as medical rescue only, because he was found in a field with a prolapsed rectum. I started finding rescues to “pull” him so I could be his potential foster, I found the best possible rescue - Lucci’s House Bully Rescue. I filled out the application, and within a few days, I was meeting one of their volunteers at the animal hospital to pick him up after his purse string procedure for his prolapse. He was the most submissive & sweet boy, letting me care for his medical issues, giving me constant “thank you” looks with his eyes. A few weeks after his initial procedure, his rectum re-prolapsed. I rushed him back to the ER vet, where he had another purse sting procedure. A few weeks later, he re-prolapsed, went back to the ER vet for an emergency Colopexy. Thankfully, the Colopexy was successful!

I officially adopted Emmett in September of 2021, he’s my absolute best friend. He’s my soul dog, my true companion. He understands me like no other. We do everything together, he sleeps with me, eats with me, we go on trips, adventures around town, and he loves absolutely everyone he meets. He is the BEST dog!

(Emmett in 2023)

At the of July this year, Emmett wouldn’t eat anything, and I noticed he had a larger & hard stomach. I took him to the vet where they did scans and determined he had an enlarged spleen. Since this vet wasn’t his primary vet, we scheduled a follow up visit the next day, where we ran multiple blood and urine tests, and further scans. Every initial test was coming back negative. We ran more tests, again, had no answers. Eventually, we decided it’s best to take him to a Veterinarian Specialist for Internal Medicine. After even more tests, the internal medicine doctor ultimately determined we should meet with surgery for a Splenectomy and do lab testing on his spleen.
Two days later, on 8/7 Emmett had his spleen removed, and it was sent to the lab for further testing. After a few weeks, on 8/22, we got the call that no body wants to hear.. “Cancer cells were found”. After talking with our primary vet, we decided to then meet with Veterinary Oncology. Emmett has since met with oncology, we started chemotherapy and sent requests to the lab for further testing to determine which exact type of blood cancer he has, as it will determine his prognosis.

Full transparency, I’m already -$10,000 to get him where we are today. I would do anything for my boy. I simply cannot afford to continue with treatment, please help me save him. This boy is a fighter! Absolutely anything helps.

Thank you,
Sam
