Hi everyone! My name is Dominique. I am a mom of 4 (13, 10, 5 & 3).
On August 16th, I brought my oldest Emmett into the emergency room after he was feeling lethargic, had little cognitive ability, and was extremely pale. Blood work was taken and came back with all his blood numbers (white, red & platelets) being extremely low. We were transported to Yale New Haven Hospital, and upon arriving, they did more blood work. The results: leukemia or severe aplastic anemia.
On August 18th, he had a procedure to extract his bone marrow so that we could get a definite result. After a few days, we were told it was 100% an auto immune disease called severe aplastic anemia. On August 21st, a port was put in his chest so that he could begin his blood transfusions three times a week. Since being diagnosed, he has continued to get worse. He has been hospitalized and admitted 5 times within the last three weeks alone. We are currently waiting for a bone marrow transplant, which will consist of chemo, radiation & a 5-week hospital stay.
During this time, I haven't been able to work and have been by Emmett's side through every transfusion, procedure, appointment, and hospital stay. I could really use any help to be able to continue to take care of my boy and get him back to being a healthy teenager and with any bills that have been piling up. Thank you!
