Emma is in her senior year of high school — and has been working on her senior year fair project for FFA, a milestone she’s been working toward with heart, grit, and determination since the 6th grade. Over the years, she’s raised chickens, pigs, dairy cows, beef heifers, and finally, steers — each project building her skills, her character, and her dreams.

A proud and dedicated member of FFA throughout her journey, Emma poured her heart into her final senior project: a steer named Rex. The year started off strong. Rex competed in two shows, gaining confidence and experience. He was on track to be her best project yet. But just weeks after fair check-in, everything changed. Rex suddenly stopped gaining weight. With the support of her ag teachers and a caring vet, Emma did everything she could to get him to gain again.
For two long months, she fought to help him with no success.

Then, on the morning of October 1st, Emma walked into the barn before school and found Rex had passed away unexpectedly. The cause was a twisted gut (blockage of abomasum) — something no one could have predicted or prevented. In that moment, Emma lost more than just her steer. She lost the opportunity to walk into the Manatee County Fair ring one final time. She lost the chance to hear her name announced as a senior , to experience the pride of her final sale, and to celebrate the culmination of years of hard work.
Emma not only lost a cherished animal and a powerful moment — she also lost the investment she had planned to put toward her future, including college expenses.
I’m reaching out on her behalf — not because we can replace that unforgettable experience, but because we can show her that her years of dedication matter. That her hard work, integrity, and spirit still deserve to be honored.
If you feel moved to help, please consider donating to help Emma recover some of the funds she lost, and to support her as she takes her next steps into the future she's worked so hard to build.
Thank you for reading, and thank you for supporting a remarkable young woman during one of the hardest moments of her journey.
