Support Emily's Urgent Eye Surgery and Recovery Fund

For the past month, I have had problems with my eye, so I went to have a check-up with my eye doctor. Last week at the appointment, they discovered that I need another eye surgery in my left eye. I had my first one in December 2023 for a detached retina. During this process, a silicone buckle was placed into my eye to help hold the retina together. That buckle has somehow, unknowingly over time, become exposed and is on the outside of my eye now.

The doctor recommended urgently that I get the buckle removed from my eye, or else it could lead to my retina redetaching, infection of the eye, and loss of eyesight.

I have barely just paid off my last eye surgery, and I found out the insurance I have will not cover this new procedure. The overall cost is over $10,500 out of pocket for the surgery, surgeon's fee, prescriptions, and doctor appointments. I am also going to have to take at least 2.5 weeks off work to recover, and I won’t be able to make money during this time.

I am trying to work out a payment plan, but with being out of work for a while and on top of other bills, I am financially worried and stressed about this. I work hard and always try my best, and it is very hard for me to ask for help, but I’ve realized this is something I need to ask for help with.

This is a very tough, intense situation, but I am grateful that this got caught now and was not ignored. I am strong and resilient and so blessed to know I have a community of support on my side!
