Emily’s Journey with Hydrocephalus and Dandy-Walker

Ian, Emily, and their daughter Lilian recently made the big decision to move back to Connecticut from Maryland to be closer to family. Ian now commutes to work twice a week, balancing time between supporting his family and providing for them.

Just a few weeks ago, Emily was rushed to the hospital multiple times in a single week due to severe head pain and pressure. Doctors determined she needed another brain surgery to replace her shunt—a familiar but still daunting procedure in her ongoing battle with Hydrocephalus.

While the surgery has thankfully brought some relief from her head pain, Emily is now facing new challenges. Since the procedure, she has experienced vision problems, dizziness, and other symptoms making mobility difficult. It’s still uncertain which of these will improve over time and which may become part of her new normal. Emily has a lot of doctors appointments ahead to determine the next course of action.
