Support Emily through Colon Cancer Treatment
Donation protected
On a family vacation in June 2022, at the age of 28, Emily went to the emergency room with abdominal pain. She soon found out she had Stage IV colorectal cancer and underwent multiple surgeries and rounds of chemo to try to eliminate the cancer. This treatment was successful and eventually her scans showed "no evidence of disease."
For most of the last year, Emily remained stable on maintenance chemo that she was able to take at home. However, in September, Emily's scans showed growth in her lungs and she began her latest round of intravenous chemo. In January, Emily will have her 50th cycle of chemo.
As you can imagine, this is extremely taxing in all ways—physically, emotionally, spiritually, and financially. Cancer is extremely expensive. For reference, the chemo pills that Emily was on most of last year cost $1,000 out of pocket every 3 weeks. She is also dealing with various side effects from the chemo that add to her medical costs.
Emily is a special education teacher at a private school in Louisville. Once she uses her allotted sick days, Emily will need to take unpaid days off work for treatment and recovery. She has had to do this the last two years.
As Emily reevaluates her next steps for treatment, she may need to travel to larger cancer centers to seek treatment. She will need assistance with the travel costs associated.
I am asking all of us to consider helping Emily financially. Your support will help Emily pay her bills, remove her financial stress, and open up opportunities for new treatments.
I hate that my sister is dealing with this terrible disease. I hope that together we can help support her through it.
