Hello Family and Friends.
My name is Emily Meyer.
As you know, in June of 2023, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer (Invasive Ductal Carcinoma). I had a Double Mastectomy in August of 2023 and my Reconstruction in December of 2023.
I have been doing well on the Aromatase Inhibitor medication, with visits to my Oncologist every 3 months.
Story time:
On March 5th, I went into the walk-in clinic for back pain. They ran a UA, an X-ray, a CT without contrast, and blood work. Negative for a bladder infection. Negative for kidney stones. Unsure of why I have the pain, they sent me home with some painkillers. The next day, March 6th, around 2 pm, the back pain was so extreme I had to leave work and go to the hospital. They ordered another UA, a CT with contrast, and an MRI. Again, everything came back negative, except for a moderate amount of blood in my urine (which all UAs stated). As the radiologist was looking at my liver and kidneys, they incidentally found masses of suspicion in my spine and hips. I was scheduled for a biopsy of my T12 spine on Saturday, March 7th. I had a PET scan done. Both of the results showed that my breast cancer has metastasized: 2-3 tumors in the spine, 1 tumor in the skull, and scattered tumors in both hips.
I have since stopped my Aromatase Inhibitor. I am now taking Kisqali, 600mg daily for 21 days, then 7 days off, then repeat. I am on an injection of Fulvestrant every two weeks for now, then monthly. Lastly, I will be starting an infusion, Zometa, to help strengthen my bones.
My oncologist said that this form of metastatic breast cancer is localized only to the bones.
Any donations would help us get through this troubling time. Having cancer the first time, and with my healing, I was doing well, feeling good. Now, with this new diagnosis, it is really taking a toll on my family and me.
Thank you everyone,
The Meyers
