Emily, known to many as “Lady Red,” is one of the most important people in my life. We’ve been friends since high school, and I’ve always admired her creativity, generosity, and strength. Emily runs her own jewelry business, makes her own costumes for cosplay, and is a dedicated pet groomer who adores her cats Lilu, Stu, and Pickles. She’s also a proud member of the Order of Leviathan, a pirate crew that raises funds for Give Kids the World, a nonprofit organization. Emily is the kind of person who gives 110% to the people she cares about—she once drove five hours to help me move after my divorce, and she’s always willing to lend a hand to friends in need.

Recently, Emily was diagnosed with stage III triple negative breast cancer. This diagnosis has turned her world upside down. Grooming pets, her main source of income, is physically demanding and will become nearly impossible as she begins chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation treatments. The financial strain is already mounting, with upcoming MRI and PET scans, and the cost of ongoing treatments. On top of medical bills, Emily will need help covering her mortgage, utilities, and basic household needs while she focuses on her health.

Emily is a fighter—she’s already survived two open heart surgeries and battled Lyme disease. Now, she faces her toughest challenge yet.
