Support Emily in her journey to healing

My name is Ashley and my amazing wife’s name is Emily. I am creating this gofundme for our family as we are in a time of need. Let me start by saying that it is unlike us to ask for money and while any monetary help will be very appreciated, we understand that that is not possible for everybody. Prayers and kind words to help Emily through this experience are just as appreciated.

Our lives were recently affected by an unexpected medical emergency that involved Emily going in to have an old shunt piece replaced as it was malfunctioning and causing her debilitating pain. She is now just over 2 weeks out from that surgery and we were informed that an infection has formed at the shunt site and she will need 2 more surgeries. The first will involve removing the entire shunt and cleaning out the site, installing a temporary external shunt and then this will be followed by a week long (possibly more) stay in the ICU while she is given IV antibiotics to fight the infection. Once the infection is gone they’ll need to perform a second surgery to install an entirely new shunt. Everything that our family has gone through has been emotionally and financially draining as Emily has been unable to work and medical bills are only going to keep

coming in.

If you’ve been lucky enough to know Emily then you’ve been blessed. If kindness were a person they would certainly be her. I couldn’t ask for more in a wife and our daughter is the luckiest kid around to have such an amazing and involved step mom. Emily has gone through a lot in her 28 years of life. Often, people tell her how strong she is when they learn that she’s a childhood cancer survivor and I couldn’t agree more. Through all of it Emily remains the most humble human I’ve ever known and while I may not have known her while she was a child, I see her determination come through in everything that she does and I admire her strength. Our family is doing all that we can to support her and while nothing can really take the burden of fear away, not needing to worry about our financial stability would take some pressure from us.
