For nearly a decade now, I have had the privilege of having a front-row seat in Emily’s life. I’ve seen moments of incredible joy, as well as moments of deep pain. Through the ups and downs, she has remained a steady friend, and right now she and her husband Joshua need our support.
On January 17th, Emily was sideswiped by another vehicle while going 50 miles an hour. Both vehicles involved were totaled.
Though she was not taken to be evaluated immediately following the accident, shortly after she developed concerning symptoms, and she and Joshua made the necessary decision to go to the ER for evaluation. While on their way to the ER, their remaining vehicle, which was already in poor condition, broke down, and they have been advised that it is not worth repairing due to the extensive work that needs to be done and the age and mileage of the vehicle.
Since the accident, Emily has been diagnosed with a broken C7 vertebra, a whiplashed neck, and a TBI/concussion. She is dealing with 24/7 nausea, vertigo, and headaches, on top of a sore neck and back. Her doctors have told her she’ll likely be out of work and unable to drive for several weeks.
Meanwhile, she’s starting vestibular therapy, physical therapy, and chiropractic care, all twice per week, plus daily hyperbaric oxygen treatments. Her doctors have also advised three rounds of stem cell therapy to help heal the damage she sustained in her brain.
As if this medical crisis wasn’t enough, both of these vehicles provided their primary income, and now being without a vehicle presents an even bigger challenge. While Joshua has been studying to get into the software industry this past year, he’s been financially providing by driving 60 hours a week through ride-share apps (Emily worked ride-share with their second vehicle as well, on top of her coaching work). With both vehicles totaled and Emily also unable to work, they are currently without an income. Joshua is currently applying for numerous other jobs that will provide for them better in the coming months, plus searching for another vehicle, all while caring for Emily, as well.
There is so much I could say about the love and dedication I have seen Joshua demonstrate day in and day out. Being a caretaker is not an easy task, and he does it with so much grace, patience, gentleness, and humility. But it does take a toll, and I know that the breathing room this financial help will provide is no small thing.
We’re raising funds to support Emily and Joshua as they navigate this extremely difficult time. Funds raised will cover:
* A used but reliable car that Joshua can use for work
* Two months lost income for Emily
* Numerous medical bills NOT covered by insurance
* Extra equipment needed for an at-home hyperbaric chamber
* Supplements recommended by Emily’s physician
* Three rounds of stem cell therapy, prescribed by Emily’s physician
No amount is too small to give, and I know Emily and Joshua will be so grateful for each and every gift!
