Hi, I’m Emilio Aguilar, a Life Scout with Troop 5.
I've been a scout since the 5th grade, when I started at a troop in Washington D.C. I am currently a Life Scout with Troop 5 in Pasadena, and I'm beginning my Eagle Scout project. I am partnering with the historic Travel Town Museum in Griffith Park to complete a very important restoration project, replacing the decaying railroad ties on a section of the museum’s tracks.
Railroad ties are the pieces of wood that rest below the rails, maintaining their distance and supporting the weight of trains. The Travel Town Museum has been around since 1952, preserving trains and other railroad equipment that built the American West.
To keep the tracks safe, we need to replace 9 standard 8-foot ties and 3 15-foot railroad ties that go under a switch. The smaller 8-foot ties will be provided by the museum, but the 15-foot ties will have to be purchased. Additionally, other equipment, such as spikes, food, and protective gear, will have to be bought.
By donating, you aren't just helping me reach the rank of Eagle Scout; you are directly contributing to the upkeep of a beloved local museum. Any funds raised above the project's costs will be donated directly to the Travel Town Museum.
Thank you for my project and the preservation of Travel Town
Emilio Aguilar
