Emersyn had her first open heart surgery in February of 2024 for a subaortic membrane resection. When the surgeon came out of the operating room, he told us that it went well and that everything was clear. There was a 3% chance of the membrane growing back. In August of 2025, my mom heart was telling me that there was something off about Emersyn. I took her in to see her cardiologist and they completed an echo. When the doctor came in, I immediately could tell that there was something wrong. The membrane had grown back in less than a years time (Previous post op echos showed it was clear). He was shocked. We were shocked. He told us at that time it would just be a wait and see. My mom brain was not ok with that. I requested another appointment and echo. At the time, they confirmed that there was no rush on it and we would watch it.
We went to see her cardiologist again on Tuesday and she had her echo done. Her doctor stated that she is going to have to have another surgery. However, this time, it was going to be more agressive. Instead of going through the valve, they will cut into her heart muscle and clear it out that way. Michael and I knew that this surgery was eventually going to come, however, we did not expect it to be this soon. Emersyn knows that she is going to have to have another surgery and she is scared this time because she understands more. She has been so brave about it and we are so proud of her.
We greatly appreciate all donations, positive thoughts, prayers, or whatever you may believe in.
