Running for a Cause: My First 50K

Hi, I’m Greg Lane, and on January 31st, 2026, I’ll be taking on my first-ever ultramarathon — the Live Oak 50K. It’s 31 miles of grit, growth, and determination — but I’m not running it just for me. I’m running it to raise money for Embrace Abilities, a local Ocean Springs nonprofit that empowers children and teens with special needs.

As I train for this challenge — logging mile after mile, pushing through the tough days, and building up to race day — I want each step to represent something bigger. Every run between now and the finish line is a chance to help create more opportunities for these incredible kids.

Create inclusive programs that bring children of all abilities together to learn, play, and grow side by side.

Provide families with the resources and community they need to navigate challenges and celebrate victories together.

This 50K is a personal milestone for me — a test of endurance, discipline, and purpose. But more importantly, it’s a chance to give back to a cause that strengthens our community.
