Please read and help our friend and family, Adrian, with Ember’s medical bills. Here’s the story of what happened, and anything you can contribute would mean the world to us.
On December 29th, after taking Ember to the mountains to experience the snow for the first time, we made a quick trip to the store. While we were gone, Ember somehow managed to open the garage door on her own and let herself out. Tragically, she wandered over to Grantline Road, where she was hit by a car that didn’t stop. Despite her injuries, our brave girl made her way back home with one of her bones sticking out of her leg.
We rushed her to the emergency vet, where we were fortunate to receive incredible care. After an evaluation, we learned that aside from some bruising and cuts, the major injury was a shattered leg. The surgeons explored every option to save it, but the damage was too severe—her leg had literally exploded from the impact. They determined that amputation would provide her with the best chance at a full and happy life, rather than putting her through multiple surgeries over the next year with the possibility of amputation still looming.
Adrian made the heartbreaking decision to move forward with the amputation, prioritizing Ember’s quality of life. Even before the surgery, Ember was showing her incredible spirit—hobbling around on her splinted leg, trying to catch a ball and play like nothing had happened. We’re hopeful she’ll recover quickly and be back on the fields, just as full of life, now with three legs.
Adrian is heartbroken knowing that she won’t be able to put her paw in people’s hands to hold anymore. He’s also worried about the kids at the fields who adore playing with her—they’re going to be devastated when they see she’s lost her leg. But we know Ember, and if anyone can adapt and thrive, it’s her. She’s truly a warrior.
