Support Ember's Mom During Her Grieving
Donation protected
I am writing on behalf of my sister, Amy White.
Her daughter, Ember, passed away unexpectedly on March 13, 2025.
As her mother, it has been hard for her to even get through a few hours without feeling like she needs some time to gather herself, lie down, maybe cry...
it has been 6 days and I was just now able to take her to pick up her car. Even driving the road that she drove to take Ember to school is almost too much.
She was given 3 days of paid bereavement leave, which was over on March 17.
It turns out that as she has worked at her current nursing job for less than a year, she is not eligible for FMLA leave. She is also not eligible for donated PTO (paid time off).
She does not have any PTO available at this time, so she is taking unpaid personal leave.
In addition to not having income for this time, she will also be paying a little over $1,000 biweekly to cover insurance benefits. (She will be responsible for the employee and employer contribution during this time.)
My sister Amy is trying to take off through April 7 before going back to 12-hour nonstop nursing shifts. We both cant can’t even imagine that being enough time, but somehow with God’s help, she says she will work to gather the strength by then.
She could really use some support in being able to manage this time off to grieve. If there is ever a time needed to lean on others for help, it is now, in the worst season of her life.
If anyone is able to help in any way, so she is able to take this time off to grieve and heal, it would be so appreciated.
thank you so much,
Jenn
