Just a few days ago I was celebrating the four year anniversary of adopting my baby kitty, Ember. It was a happy time of looking at all the photos of her when she was a kitten; then, yesterday, Sunday June 1st, all of my joy turned to massive concern as I realized that my young, healthy kitty was suddenly experiencing symptoms showing that something was sincerely wrong. We rushed her to the only emergency vet we have in the area and after several tests including physical exam, x-ray, and ultrasound, the determination was made that she had a blockage in her intestines that was causing her distress. We were told point blank that if surgery did not happen, the chances of this becoming fatal for her was extremely high.

Ember has been the light of our life since we brought her home four years ago. She is genuinely one of the sweetest kitties in the world with so much personality. Even the vets as we were going through so much heartache and worry yesterday kept telling us how amazing of a cat she is and how she may be their favorite patient of the day because of how sweet and welcoming she is to everyone. That's who she has always been. She loves meeting strangers and cuddling, and the entire reason I chose her instead of one of her brothers when I adopted her is because she kept coming back up to me begging to be loved. I've had so much blessing to love her for these past four years and I could not imagine losing her so soon.

So surgery was not even a question. I would do anything for this little girl; she is very much a part of our family through and through. The cost, however, of this surgery was a lot for our family, especially since our option was to go to an emergency vet on a weekend. The veterinarians warned us that if we waited an extra day it could cause more damage and make the surgery far more risky. So we said yes to the cost up front.

The surgery was completed successfully and the blockage was removed. She's in recovery at the hospital now but obviously costs are adding up. Between the initial exams and the surgery, as well as supplies we have needed to get to prepare for her post-op recovery at home, we are asking for help from family, friends, and anyone we can to help us pay for these costs. The entire cost of the emergency visit with the surgery alone is expected to be in the $7000 range; follow-up visits will almost surely be needed as well with her post-op care which will also add to the amount we are paying to make sure that Ember is feeling better. Anything that people can chip in will be greatly appreciated. We know that times are tough for everyone, but anything you can do to help our little girl in her recovery would mean the world to all of us in our family.
