Hi! We're Em and Ev!
Many of you know our family, although some of you may not know we've gone through a divorce. We unfortunately also had a close death in the family when my mom passed away this February. Now, we're moving!
Whether you knew about our divorce or not, I'm sure you know divorce is a costly endeavor, no matter how "simple" you think it will be! Co-parenting has been going great, but that doesn't lower the cost of the whole thing. Two dogs, one large old home, and a teenager all come with so many price tags that a single income is stretched real thin.
My mom dying was obviously emotionally hard on us both. Mom was a good one #iykyk. She was my person who was always and forever, without a doubt, in my corner. Ev lost her grandma and with that, her "summer camp," occasional weekend sitter, buyer of gifts, and taker of trips. When she passed, we took on the task of emptying her home and renovating it. Momma lived in Beaufort, which means many trips down and back to Charleston and many tanks of gas. We're working hard to make her home Airbnb ready so that we can keep her incredible property in the family for generations to come. The supplies for the home repairs, the mortgage payments, taxes, and other related bills are beginning to add up, and we are so close but not quite ready to list it.
Circumstances have led us to need to sell our home, and we're not sure where we will be going next. We'd like to stay in the area, but we will see how it all shakes out. There are some contingencies related to the sale, and we aren't sure how much we'll be able to walk away with for our moving expenses and new digs.
I work full-time in an elementary school, take art commissions year-round, and have a wall of art for sale up in a local shop. I'm doing my best to make ends meet and keep up with all the bills and expenses, but I'm always barely covering all the bills, and sometimes, I'm not. My credit has taken a hit these past three years, too.
Soon, we will be downsized, and our expenses will be as well. We hope to use whatever money from the sale of our home for our new, smaller, *better insulated home and be able to begin to get back on our feet. I'd also like to land a better-paying job (I love my school, but a girl's gotta eat!) - preferably in a creative field. I'd like to take some courses and purchase some programs to get me graphic design proficient.
The past few years have been really challenging for us, and we're fighters, no doubt, but we know when to ask for some help in the fight.
Humbly, we are asking for it now.
