A few weeks ago, a young puppy we now call Elvis was brought into our clinic after being found unable to walk. X-rays revealed he had a completely broken elbow, and surgery was likely going to be necessary for him to have any chance at a normal, pain-free life.
Before any treatment could even happen, Elvis was surrendered to us — and someone close to Dr. Malak immediately stepped up to give him a safe, committed home. Unfortunately, because of how long the injury was left untreated before he was surrendered to us, there is now a possibility that he may not be a candidate for surgery — Elvis's family is working closely with specialists to determine what can be done for him.
Then everything changed.
Within the last 24 hours, Elvis took a sudden turn for the worse and has now been diagnosed with Parvo, a life-threatening virus that requires intensive, quarantined hospitalization. This devastating setback came on top of his already serious orthopedic injury. His projected medical costs for Parvo treatment alone range from $5,000–$15,000, depending on how long he needs specialized care.
Elvis has already been through more than any puppy should. His new family is doing everything they can for him, but this unexpected crisis is a heavy financial burden.
This has been incredibly heavy for all of us — especially for Dr. Malak, who bonded with Elvis almost instantly. He’s been deeply involved in Elvis’s care from the moment he arrived, and watching this little boy fight through so much has weighed on him both as a veterinarian and as someone who truly loves animals. Elvis is not “just another case” to him — he’s a puppy he cares about deeply and wants so badly to see grow up healthy and happy.
If you’re able, please consider donating or sharing Elvis’s story to help support his medical care.
Every single contribution makes a difference in giving him a fighting chance.
