I’m reaching out during an incredibly difficult time for our family.
My husband, Elvis Ortiz, has been diagnosed with Charcot foot disease—a serious condition that is rapidly affecting his left foot. We went into a recent appointment expecting to discuss reconstructive surgery, but instead, we were met with devastating news: his condition has worsened significantly.
We were given two options—amputate now, or take a high-risk chance to try to save his foot. The odds are 60/40, and the risk of infection is extremely high, especially with his underlying health conditions, including diabetes, obesity, and congestive heart failure.
Elvis will undergo surgery next week with the hope of saving his foot. If successful, he still faces a long and difficult recovery before he can walk again. If not, he may wake up without his foot, leading to an even longer recovery and the need for a prosthetic.
At the same time, Elvis does not qualify for benefits or FMLA because he recently started a new job. This has created a perfect storm for our family. We are facing mounting medical bills along with everyday expenses like rent, utilities, and basic necessities—all while trying to prepare for what lies ahead.
This has been overwhelming in every way. We are asking for help so Elvis can receive the care he needs and so we can stay afloat during his recovery.
Any donation, no matter the amount, would mean more to us than we can express. If you’re unable to give, please consider sharing—your support truly makes a difference.
We will keep everyone updated on his surgery and recovery. Thank you for your prayers, kindness, and support during this incredibly hard time.
With gratitude,
Nicole
