Elvin’s story is one that is incomprehensible, especially for such a young kid, just 13 years old, to have to endure at a time in one’s life that should normally be the carefree stage; having fun with friends, going out for sports, just learning to drive, playing games online….but one diagnosis can change all of that in the blink of an eye.
This time last year, Elvin was that carefree kid. Hanging out with friends. Shooting hoops with the basketball team. Attending band concerts. Just being the kind, sweet kid he is, making everyone around him laugh and smile with his own contagious smile and fun loving personality. He will strike up a conversation with any kid and any parent!
Over the course of a few months last year, his mom Maria started to notice a change in him. He would come home from school and want to sleep all the time. He began to lose a lot of weight in just a short amount of time. He just simply wasn’t himself.
After several doctor’s appointments, tests and scans, they discovered a large tumor located in his abdomen. After a biopsy was performed, the crushing news came back….it was indeed a form of Sarcoma Cancer.
Currently Elvin has had two of 13 projected chemo treatments at Children’s of Omaha. These treatments, performed every two weeks, put him in the hospital for 5 days each and every time, day and night. Once his 13 rounds are completed, Radiation will be next on the list. A process that will take roughly a year to complete.
This is where GoFundMe pages are so important and vital in helping families such as the Flores family in ways that we can not do alone. It takes a village.
Even with insurance, there are always high dollar out of pocket max deductibles to meet, not only once, but for years to follow when it comes to cancer. Weekly trips to treatments, doctors appointments, ER trips when necessary, scans, etc. Food, lodging, gas. The list goes on and on.
With the help of family and friends through this page, my hope is to ease the financial burden for Maria and Jose Flores so they have one less thing to worry about and can focus their 100% attention and love to their son, our friend and brother, Elvin.
So please, let’s gather together and show them what we can do as a community to shed a little light, a little hope, some love and a whole lot of support during this long trying journey that lies ahead for them. Elvin is such an amazing, smart, kind human being who would do anything for anyone. It’s our time to show him how much he means to us!!!
Please share this page and start a prayer chain going for Elvin!
