In February 2025, an accident in gym class led to medical professionals finding a rare and aggressive bone cancer (Ewing's Sarcoma) in Elver Antonio's knee and leg.
At this time, Elver and his family are uninsured, unable to get insurance, and do not qualify for financial aid through WVU Children's. He is facing significant hospital stays, extensive medical treatment, and scans. His family will have to transport him between their home in Clarksburg and the Children's Hospital in Morgantown. This will force them to take significant time away and they will be unable to work in their current jobs.
Elver is a selfless, hardworking, respectful high school junior at Robert C. Byrd High School in Clarksburg, WV. Elver came to the United States in November 2022 and has worked so hard to learn English, engage with his school community, excel in his schoolwork, and be a team player with RCB Soccer for the 2023-2024 season, all while working and being an amazing big brother, son, cousin, friend, and community member. As his teachers and coaches, will all are amazed and honored to work with this amazing, kind, and brave young man.
Elver has two young sisters who are trying to finish their year at school while helping support their family through this incredibly challenging time. The family would benefit from any support the community can provide to pay for medical bills, hospital stays, transportation, groceries, lost wages, utilities, rent, etc.
Please consider any way you can help support Elver's journey to healing and health!
