Hi, my name is Tammy, and my mother, Elsie, has had her world turned upside down. In August, she had a stroke but recovered with no significant issues. Then in October we were in Red River, NM, and she was able to walk and had slurred speech but improved. However, in November, she could not walk anymore without a walker or drive. She came to stay with me in January and struggled to keep food down in February. She lost about 20lbs she had to get a feeding tube. She’s made significant progress and has gotten stronger, and gaining weight. Currently, she is in a wheelchair and cannot use a walker without assistance. She needs 24/7 care and her insurance doesn’t provide coverage for it. She is currently in a skilled nursing rehabilitation facility to help her recover. She was admitted to the hospital on March 5th in Rio Rancho, and five days later transferred to Presbyterian in Albuquerque, NM. From there, she entered UNM Lovelace Acute Rehabilitation hospital for a month. She has been moved to Clovis Rehabilitation skilled nursing facility to be closer to family but has accumulated many medical bills. She is on a fixed disability income, and they will soon be taking her social security disability check as payment. Please pray my Mom gets stronger and can walk again. My Mom worked 33 plus years as a respiratory therapist helping others she loved her job! She would do anything for anybody and remains in high spirits. She's optimistic she will be able to walk again and be independent. We are in the process of navigating other aid and resources. In the meantime, any donations would be greatly appreciated to help pay for her medical bills and rehabilitation.
