i’m elliott, and i’m a 20 year old gay trans man from texas. i’m also an anthropology and history student, an artist, and a cat lover.

i struggle with a lot of gender dysphoria regarding my chest (which last i measured were DDs), so i’ve been binding almost daily for 6 years. it’s not only super tight and uncomfortable in the texas heat, but it only does so much at my size, and it isn’t recommended to bind for more than 8 hours at a time. so, it greatly limits my ability to socialize, work a job, exercise, and go to my classes without being extremely uncomfortable and in pain. it’s incredibly exhausting to live with, not even mentioning the back pain from my chest size in general without binding!! now that i’ve been on testosterone for almost 3 years with a deep voice and facial hair, not binding would put me in danger, so i just rarely leave the house. this surgery would literally singlehandedly change my entire life.

top surgery has felt like a distant dream for almost a decade (literally since i started puberty), but i finally have the means to start that process now that my abusive & estranged father kicked me off his insurance and i was able to get my own student plan earlier this year. i had my consultation with a surgeon close to me in late may, and i’m a great candidate for double incision! i’m also currently in the process of getting both my letters from my therapist and PCP.

i recently lost my crazy retail job and am trying to find work again but, like a lot of other people right now, am not having any luck. i’m also autistic and have POTS which makes it very hard for me, although i’m still trying. i had some savings for surgery from my last job but i’ve been slowly having to chip away at it to pay for groceries.

my insurance plan, under cough cough united healthcare, has a $7,350 deductible for any in-network surgeons (which at least mine is) before they’ll cover the rest. i’ve set the final goal as $8,000 to also cover the $600 deposit for scheduling the appointment and post-op supplies. those numbers are way bigger than i initially anticipated so literally anything helps immensely.
