Hello friends, family, and kind-hearted supporters,
We are reaching out to you on behalf of our dear friend and colleague, Ellie Goneva, who has faced an incredibly challenging journey over the past year. In May 2023, Ellie's life took an unexpected turn when a six-centimeter tumor was discovered inside her spinal cord. Despite the odds, Ellie underwent a complex 6-hour surgery led by the skilled hands of Dr. Ramsey Ashour, successfully removing the rare benign tumor known as Ependymoma.
Following the surgery, Ellie's determination and resilience shone through as she spent three months in a rehabilitation hospital and skilled nursing facility, relearning essential life skills such as feeding herself, walking, dressing, and honing her motor and sensory skills. The injury on her spinal cord was pronounced as incomplete quadriplegia, yet Ellie made remarkable progress, allowing her to return home on September 1st, where she began living a more independent life.
However, in mid-December, Ellie faced a sudden decline in function, preventing her from walking. A second surgery became necessary to stabilize her spine, resulting in a cervical spine fusion. Despite these setbacks, Ellie remains unwavering in her determination to reclaim her life and independence.
The financial burden of medical expenses, ongoing rehabilitation, and the challenges Ellie faces on her road to recovery are immense. That's why we've set up this GoFundMe campaign – to rally around Ellie and provide the financial support she needs to continue her journey towards healing. Your generosity can make a significant impact on Ellie's life, helping to cover medical bills, therapy sessions, and other related expenses. Every donation, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to ensuring Ellie can focus on her recovery without the added stress of financial strain.
Let's come together as a community to lift Ellie's spirits and show her that she is not alone in this journey. Your support means the world to Ellie and all of us who care about her well-being.
Thank you for taking the time to read Ellie's story and considering a donation. Your kindness will make a lasting difference in her life.
With gratitude,
Poya, Maxim, Daniel, Max, Kateryna.
