Believing for a Miracle: Ellie Jo’s Journey

Hi Friends and Family, Thank you for visiting. We are inviting you to join us in believing for a miracle for our daughter, Ellie Jo. This journey has been anything but normal, but we are choosing faith over fear.

Thank you for joining us here. We created this page to keep everyone who loves our daughter, Ellie Jo, updated on her ongoing battle with Leukemia, and to share how you can support our family during this time.

Ellie’s Story In the spring of 2024, we took Ellie Jo to the doctor for a routine exam to investigate why she was suffering from chronic headaches, vision issues, and occasional falls. Through these tests, we received news no parent ever expects to hear: Ellie has Leukemia.

Originally, doctors diagnosed her with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). We immediately began a long journey of treatments. By early 2025, Ellie underwent surgery to remove her tonsils and adenoids to reduce infection risks, alongside countless sleep studies, blood draws, and tests. The road has been rocky; during one visit, she even suffered a seizure in the doctor’s office.

A New Diagnosis Recently, in late 2025, Ellie’s diagnosis changed from AML to JMML (Juvenile Myelomonocytic Leukemia). This is a rare and complex blood cancer typically found in very young children. The only known cure is a stem cell transplant, requiring aggressive treatment and continuous, specialized care.

This journey has forced us to have incredibly tough conversations. Ellie knows she has cancer. She has asked us if she is going to die. Recently, she complained that her head hurt—we thought it was a headache, but realized her hair was beginning to fall out in clumps, even before chemotherapy started.

How You Can Help We have been referred to St. Louis Children's Hospital to take over Ellie Jo's care. While we are blessed to be made a priority, we are facing significant challenges with insurance, out-of-network specialists and travel costs.
