Hi, I'm Ellen, and I'm an independent filmmaker! I'm currently working on producing the third short film I have written and directed. I have a passion for telling stories about women and exploring the challenges they have faced through the genre of horror.
Being a filmmaker is my passion, and I am excited to tell you all about my newest story.
THE STORY
A woman living on the western frontier in the 1800s is trapped within the confines of the patriarchy and finds a path to freedom by making a deal with a dark entity.
THE CHARACTERS
Lydia lives in a time in which women are expected to follow one path: get married and become a homemaker. This has never been Lydia's dream, but she did get married. Her husband expects her to have children and be subservient to him.
Lydia has started having dreams where she sees a bird who is beckoning her. He has told her what she needs to do to have what she wants. Lydia sets out to make a deal with this dark entity to find what she desires most- freedom.
Rebecca is the town gossip, who has an in with everyone. When she notices Lydia seems to be acting strange, her suspicions lead Lydia down a dangerous path.
THE THEMES
I really like the idea of the 'monkey's paw'. While Lydia's has understandable reasons to be desperate to be herself and have freedom of choice, sometimes there is an unexpected price to be paid. Whether or not the sacrifice was worth it may be up to the viewers feelings.
As always, I want to explore the power of women, and what they might achieve when they are not afraid.
THE TEAM
Morgan Holcomb will be playing our starring role as Lydia. She is also a producer and works on Production Design. This is Morgan, and I's second collaboration, and I'm so lucky to have her as an even bigger part of this project!
Baron Logan is our Director of Photography. He has been a strong collaborator and inspiration in my creative work, and I'm excited to have him on board for this project!
