Hello, my name is Missy Michaelson-Gard, and I truly appreciate you taking this moment to read this story. My dear friend and neighbor, Ellen Macioce, will be undergoing back surgery on November 4 for an extruded disc. She has been living with extreme back pain for years, and due to her last injury, this surgery has become a necessity.

Ellen is an extremely hardworking and talented individual who has not been able to work at full capacity due to this injury and pain. Her current job as a bartender and server keeps her on her feet and moving constantly for hours. This is very difficult, painful, and exhausting. She is also an extremely talented professional artist, which also requires a great deal of physical strength. She is a painter and spends hours standing, reaching, stretching, and extending. You may not think of painting as such a physical activity, but it truly is a strenuous workout. Due to this surgery, Ellen will not be able to work post-surgery during her recovery time.
