Support Ella’s Journey with Chondrolysis

My name is Summer, the mother of an incredible 11-year-old girl named Ella. At the end of 2024, our lives changed overnight.

Ella developed Chondrolysis, a rare and serious condition that causes the rapid breakdown of cartilage in a joint. In her case, it affected her hip—one of the body’s most important weight-bearing joints. As the cartilage deteriorated, the joint became extremely painful and stiff, causing chronic inflammation and severe loss of mobility. For a growing child, this impacts nearly every part of daily life—from walking and bending to even the simplest tasks.

Her condition was triggered by streptococcal arthritis, a severe infection that spread to her thigh muscle and left pelvic region, leading to sepsis and toxic shock. Ella spent three days in the Pediatric ICU and more than two weeks hospitalized at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

During that time, she underwent hip surgeries, countless tests, and powerful medications while enduring constant pain—more than any child should ever have to face. Although she is finally home, she is still weak and continues to fight through the challenges of recovery.

Ella is a vibrant, creative kid with a bright spirit and a heart that fiercely protects the people she loves. She loves talking with her friends, playing on her VR headset, swinging outside, and creating digital art. She’s even learning to play the drums and has a deep love for grunge music. She also adores her bird and her dog, Jace.

But Ella’s life has changed in ways no 11-year-old should have to experience.

To protect her hip, her physical activity is strictly limited. She can’t run outside with friends, jump on the trampoline, play sports, or even tie her own shoes right now. Many of the simple joys of childhood are suddenly out of reach.

Because of the trauma her body has endured, Ella is currently receiving Hospital Home bound Education Services instead of attending public school. To make sure she has the care and support she needs every day, I have also had to stay home to care for her full-time.

And yet, through all of this, Ella continues to show incredible strength. She still finds reasons to smile. She still dreams, creates, and pushes forward. She is resilient, strong-willed, and courageous—a true fighter.

Funds raised will help provide meaningful experiences that improve Ella’s quality of life while supporting her limited mobility. This may include art, music, hobby programs, inclusive summer camps, creative activities, and outings to parks, aquariums, and other accessible places where she can simply enjoy being a kid again.

Support may also help with community activities, educational experiences, and special moments that bring joy, confidence, and a sense of belonging—giving Ella opportunities to learn, grow, connect with others, and experience positive moments despite the challenges she faces.

If you’re unable to donate, sharing Ella’s story would mean the world to us. The more people who see her journey, the more support she receives.

Thank you for taking the time to read about our incredible daughter and for standing with Ella as she continues to heal and reclaim her childhood. ❤️
