Support Elizabeth's Journey to Better Mobility

A couple of weeks ago I met this amazing woman named Elizabeth. We connected. We cried together. We laughed together. We hugged and bonded in the parking lot of TJ Maxx in Southbury. I want to help her. I feel the need to help her. What she is dealing with isn’t fair.

Here is Elizabeth’s story from Elizabeth herself:

”Hi Cindy…so here we go…on July 11th, 2000, I was on i84 leaving work to go pick up my daughter for a pediatrician appointment. I was the last car in construction traffic. We were moving very slowly and then we came to a complete stop. It all happened so quickly. We came to a stop and the next thing I knew, I glanced in my rearview mirror to see a Lake Tahoe speeding up behind me going, they believe, 80 to 85 miles an hour. He hit me from behind and pushed me up into the bed of the pick up truck in front of me. Somehow God was on my side that day because I stopped right at my windshield. It turns out the guy that hit me was the 23-year-old son of a Super Bowl superstar. I got very little to take care of my medical needs because he had his son insured under a bogus trucking company, which then bankrupt. The little bit of money that I did receive went quick.

As you can see, I have extensive spinal injury as a result of that accident, including an impinged spinal cord and multiple herniated discs, stenosis, arthritis and to this day, severe pain. I’ve had multiple surgeries ranging from a discectomy, laminectomy, a failed L 4/5 spinal fusion which has left me with not only severe kyphosis but scoliosis as well. I have had to have 3 hip replacements (had to have the right done twice due to infection). I also had to have two cervical fusions from C-3/4 through C-6/7. As a result of all of this, I now have a 90° curvature in my spine, which was a gradual progression and has been extremely difficult for me physically, mentally and emotionally. I have severe arthritis along with unbelievable daily pain. My most recent bloodwork shows high positive results for auto immunity so now I have to go see a rheumatologist, on top of everything. The pain in my arms and legs is unbearable at times. (The afternoons get rough). That’s when I meditate and say tomorrow is a new day.

I hope this helps explain what has happened to me and why I’m in the position I’m in. I am an open book. I just don’t like to read it.

Sending SO MUCH GRATITUDE !✨☀️”

Does anyone have any connections to either car dealerships or anyone who would be willing to donate a van that she can turn into a handicapped accessible one? Elizabeth can’t stand any straighter than she is due to a terrible car accident in which she was hit. This is how she walks so she needs that scooter or a wheelchair. She is only 61!!! I had seen her in the store in a scooter but didn’t realize she has to take it apart to transport - each piece is soooo heavy that I had difficult in lifting them. I was walking past her in the parking lot and saw a scooter and the back of a car open. I asked her, “How are you going to lift that inside your car??” Elizabeth told me she has to take it apart. I couldn’t stand by and watch so I offered my assistance. At first, she refused. But I insisted and she said, “No one ever offers help. In fact, people often say some terrible things to me.” I was in tears by the time I was done packing her car with all 5 pieces, knowing how difficult this was for ME never mind HER and in her condition. The heaviest piece is placed on the front passenger floor. The other four go in the back. I’m telling you, each piece was soooo heavy and if I had difficulty, imagine how she feels???? This is beyond unacceptable.

Unfortunately, she doesn’t have enough funds to buy herself and equip a van to make it handicapped accessible so she does the best that she can. Elizabeth lives locally. In addition to this Go Fund Me, any donations of vans in good condition, new or used, would be absolutely AMAZING.

Do you know when something just hits you and you feel like you HAVE to do something? This was my moment. Please share this.

Yes, I gave her my book - a little inspiration and to let her know who I am, that I’m not some crazy random person. Lol.

Posted with Elizabeth’s permission and her incredible gratitude to all of you. ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you all for your love, support and generosity. Every dollar donated will help Elizabeth. The main goal is to raise enough money to be able to help provide Elizabeth with a much better mode of transportation - a handicapped accessible van with all the adaptations needed to transport her scooter or wheelchair and to be able to do this all herself without having to lift a thing. ❤️
