Help Support Elizabeth Booth’s Recovery Journey
Hi, my name is Kalyn, and I’m creating this GoFundMe on behalf of my best friend, Sarah Booth, whose daughter, Elizabeth, recently faced a life-altering medical emergency.
What began as a routine act of kindness quickly turned into every parent's worst fear. Elizabeth, a bright and generous teenager, signed up to donate blood at a school blood drive. When her blood pressure registered abnormally high, she was advised to see a doctor right away. From there, things moved fast—Elizabeth was rushed by ambulance to the ER, where she underwent extensive testing.
For two days, the family received no answers. Then came the results from the CT scan: a 4-inch tumor in one of Elizabeth’s kidneys. While the doctors could not yet confirm cancer, it was the leading concern. Regardless of the cause, her medical team agreed that the kidney—and the tumor—needed to be removed immediately.
On her fourth day in the hospital, Elizabeth underwent a five-hour surgery to remove her kidney. The surgery was successful, and she remained in the hospital for three more days for monitoring and additional testing.
The good news—the best possible news—came just days later: Elizabeth did not have cancer, but instead a rare kidney disease that had caused the tumor and elevated blood pressure. She has since returned home and is making an incredible recovery, bravely adapting to the new lifestyle that living with one kidney requires.
Throughout this journey, the Booth family has remained anchored in faith and surrounded by love. They are beyond grateful to God and to their community for the support they've received so far. But as you can imagine, the financial burden has been enormous.
Between the emergency care, imaging, surgery, extended hospital stay, and follow-up care, the medical bills have been staggering. The Booth’s insurance plan has an out- of- pocket maximum per individual that is almost $10,000. Based on the bills they have received thus far, this amount has been met. On top of the bills, Sarah stepped away from work for several weeks to be by Elizabeth’s side, while Matt took leave from his second job to manage things at home and support their son, Logan.
I’m asking for your help. If you're able, please consider making a donation—no matter how small—to help ease the financial weight of this journey for the Booth family. Every contribution helps cover medical expenses, transportation, lost income, and the long road of recovery ahead.
Let’s come together to lift this family the way they’ve lifted so many others.
