Elias was 8 weeks old on February 18th when he stopped breathing in his sleep. His mom, Morgan, had been with him all day. He fell asleep and she got up to get something to eat. When she came back to check on him minutes later she realized he was unresponsive and not breathing. Our cousin who lives in the apartment with them called 911 as morgan began CPR on Eli. His dad, Christopher, was at work and left immediately making it home to meet paramedics and show them which apartment was theirs. Paramedics were able to get a pulse before leaving. He’s currently in the PICU receiving treatment under sedation while his body heals.
At first he was on a cooling sedation for days and currently they’re monitoring him and slowly going down on things. It’s been a roller coaster ride of ups and downs. He had a collapsed lung that they were able to get working perfectly again. Test results came back from his brain and heart. His heart was bruised but no lasting damage but his brain sustained damage. We won’t know what that looks like until we can get him off sedation to do another scan. He was receiving IV nutrients but recently started getting tube fed nutrients and everything has been going well with the introduction of that.
Things have been up in the air the past week and Christopher has had to miss work to be with him. Eli has a long road to recovery ahead of him and at this point we don’t know what that will look like for him. Keep fighting, Butterbean, we love you so much.
