Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers,
I am reaching out to you with an urgent plea for help. Elias has already faced unimaginable challenges in his young life. During his first college semester, he suffered a massive heart attack, a medical crisis that very few survive. This was the result of the interplay between two chronic illnesses Elias has: lupus and APS (diagnosed only after the heart attack!) Through strength, perseverance, and with the support of his friends and family, he made it through that terrifying experience with fortitude and grace.
He has been actively managing these two illnesses and the ways that they work together. He is knowledgeable and medically compliant. And it has been exceedingly difficult. Despite this, Elias has been unbelievably positive- acting, working, taking classes, dating- but having these constantly interrupted with heart and health issues. Now: heart failure.
Elias has been in the hospital for over a month and, despite the doctors’ best efforts, the first attempt at implanting a pacemaker defibrillator was unsuccessful. He has now undergone a second surgery- and is still hospitalized. His team of 5 cardiology specialists are monitoring him closely.
His poor mom, Brittany, is under unthinkable stress with gut wrenching sadness about Elias’ health, quality of life and financial worries. She is quite remarkable too. Elias’ mom Brittany is his primary caregiver and support. She has been by his side every step of the way, all while working hard to support her family. The financial strain of medical bills, medicine co-pays (he is on 15 daily) and the costs of everyday life are becoming overwhelming.
I am reaching out to you, hoping that you can find it in your heart to help Elias and Brittany in this time of need. Any donation, no matter how small, will make a significant impact on Elias’ ability to receive the care and support he needs during this critical time.
Your generosity will not only help cover medical expenses but also give them the message that they are not alone- it is so hard to remain positive when looking at the possibility of death so often. Especially for a parent watching her child.
Please donate… and please consider sharing this page with others who might be able to help.
On behalf of Elias and Brittany, thank you for your kindness, your prayers, and your support.
With gratitude,
Dale Meyer
