4 weeks post surgery update: Eliana is no longer taking pain medications. She is able to turn in bed and sleep more comfortably on her sides. Her incision is healed and scarred. She is looking awesome with a big scar down her back. She is starting PT 3x per week up until school starts. It seems that the surgery put her back on her strength. She isn’t able to put as much weight on her feet like she used to, which is hindering her transfers and independency. We are going to work hard to get her back to where she needs to be so she can be independent at school. I’m still having to help her transfer to bedside commode, in and out of the car, in and out of her chair, etc. BUT it has gotten easier as we have learned and navigated what works for us. The next steps are to move out of my grandmothers house and get us into a place that is more suitable for Eliana. Obviously it is impossible to get into a full handicap home/apartment because nothing is built that way unless you are buying and modify it that way, but I am on the hunt for a home that is open and has bathroom door ways that she can fit through with her chair. Everything needs to be “spacious”. I have upped the amount so this can help Eliana. I am hopeful that in the next few months everything falls into place! All of the remaining contributions will be going towards a home that is suitable for Ellie!
THANK YOU

*UPDATE 14 days post surgery: The donations so far have helped tremendously! Thank you so much for everyone who has donated. We were in the hospital for 8 days, funds so far have helped cover food, parking, a few bills, things Ellie needs at home for example: commode liners, disposable chucks, diapers, wipes, etc. I’ve raised the goal a little more to help go into August. I am unsure what work looks like, Ellie will be starting PT 3 times per week for 4 weeks so she can be prepared for school. Her independence is very important to her. She is working hard! Recovery has been hard since day 1, but each day gets better and better ❤️

Hi, I’m Savanna and I am creating this GoFund me for my daughter Eliana. We are from Texas. My daughter Eliana was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy in 2013. In 2019 Ellie lost her ability to walk and has been wheelchair bound since. Inevitably, she has developed severe scoliosis and will be having spinal rod surgery on June 28th. Due to her neuromuscular disease, she will require extensive extra care during her recovery. As a single mom and her primary caregiver, that means that I will have to take off some work. We are reaching out to the community to raise funds and to help during this big transition in our lives. The funds will help cover costs for bills, equipment that may not be covered by insurance, metro rides in an handicap van to get her to recovery appointments, and to move Eliana into a more suitable home in the upcoming months.

If you know us you know that I am the primary caregiver for Eliana and unfortunately I have been limited to work. Therefore, we are currently staying with family so Ellie can have this surgery.

We know that times are tough for a lot of people and we are so grateful for your kindness and generosity to help.
